Never before have Australian art audiences been able to enjoy a survey exhibition featuring Yang Fudong, an outstanding proponent in the medium of moving images. In ACMI’s cavernous subterranean spaces, audiences will be able to fully appreciate the sweeping cinematic qualities of Yang Fudong’s works, featuring suspended sequences, spiralling narratives and multiple perspectives in explorations of the psyche of China’s new generation.

The exhibition includes a new five-channel work commissioned by ACMI and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki called The Coloured Sky: New Women II. Although he usually works in black and white, Yang Fudong has used colour in this piece that delves into the secret dream and anxieties of young women.
