The Chinese Masonic Society and Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne's lion dance teams start the day with a cacophony of rhythmic drumming and firecrackers outside Chinese businesses, to ensure evil spirits are scared away and allowing prosperity to follow in the coming year.

Add street performers and traditional craftspeople from overseas, Asian food stalls, waiters' races open to all-comers, and cultural activities in the streets and lane ways, and the area will be buzzing with excitement!

The Chinese Museum has a free open day from 11am to 5pm to view the Museum's exhibition and activities.

Main stage performances advance into the evening, starting with Popasia live show from 6pm to 8pm.

These events are brought to you by City of Melbourne, Victorian Multicultural Commission, AXF Group, ANZ Bank, Rydges Melbourne, Quest on Bourke, Central Equity, Channel Seven and SBS Radio.
