Chinese food has many styles and flavours. In particular, the flavours of southern China are very different to that of northern China.

In northern China it is very common for people to make dumplings on New Year’s Eve and eat them on the morning of New Year’s Day to celebrate the return of spring and the new beginning. In southern China, especially around the Yangzi River region, people usually cook sweet rice cake to celebrate New Year, as the rice cake symbolises a sweet year with prosperity.

Due to differences in geographical conditions, many dishes are created to meet both people’s needs, plus also the harmony between the human and the natural world. Examples of this include the famous Sichuan hot-spicy food, the Xinjiang lamb skewer, the Cantonese sweet and sour dish, Shanghai steam meat bun, Lanzhou noddles, Hangzhou finger food, dumplings and sweet rice cake, moon cake and bamboo leaf rice wrap-Zong zi.

The delicious Street of Chinese Cuisine will provide over 20 varieties in food for people to choose and taste.
