The Carlton Gardens precinct will glow in red and gold to celebrate Chinese New Year in 2017.

Visit the precinct after sunset between Saturday 28 January and Friday 3 February to see the Royal Exhibition Building illuminated with projections welcoming in the year of the Rooster.

The Royal Exhibition Building is a fitting choice for the projections due a strong link with Chinese culture that dates back as far as the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition.

This grand showcase of cultures from all over the world took place in the then newly built Royal Exhibition Building and included the 'Chinese Court'; a space exhibiting many exquisite objects from China including carved ivory, silk, porcelain, ceramics, and tea.
